Basically, there are five types of coverage that auto insurance policies in Hawaii have. These are bodily injury liability, property damage, medical payments, uninsured and underinsured motorist, and collision and comprehensive coverage. These types of coverage on auto insurance policies may have big terms, but majority of them is easy to understand and could be determined in the name of the coverage. Bodily injury liability covers for claims that involved injuries due to an accident, whereas property damage liability covers for damages to other individual’s vehicle and/or property in case of an accident. Medical payments coverage in auto insurance policies pays for the medical expenses of the driver and the passengers of the policyholder’s vehicle.

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage in auto insurance policies, in most states, pay for bodily injury losses against drivers who don’t have insurance or don’t have enough insurance. Collision coverage in auto insurance policies pays for the damages on your vehicle caused by other vehicles. On the other hand, comprehensive coverage pays for damages caused by vandalism and natural disasters like storms, fire, etc

The state you live in would decide on the types of coverage you should have on your auto insurance policy. Most states mandate minimum liability insurance and ensure that vehicle owners have coverage before they can even register their vehicles with the state.
